Condensed milk

Sweetened condensed milk is milk concentrated by removing water and adding sugar. It differs from unsweetened evaporated milk in both sweetness and thickness.

Caribbean uses

It is used in tres leches cakes, flans and chilled desserts. It can sweeten a coconut dessert, but reduce other sugar rather than adding it without adjustment.

Preparation and storage

Refrigerate after opening in a covered food container, following the label. Use pasteurized dairy and disclose milk as an allergen.

Recipe

Condensed milk: coconut yogurt cups

4 small portions

Ingredients

  • 60 g Condensed milk — sweetened condensed milk
  • 360 g plain pasteurized yogurt
  • 20 g toasted unsweetened coconut

Method

  1. Whisk condensed milk and yogurt until smooth.
  2. Divide among four small glasses and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Add toasted coconut just before serving; no extra sugar is needed. Contains milk.
