Rum

Rum is a distilled alcoholic spirit made from sugarcane-derived material. White and aged rums have different aromas; neither is interchangeable with a nonalcoholic syrup.

Caribbean uses

It appears in Caribbean cocktails and in some cakes and dessert sauces. The drink below is explicitly for adults who choose alcohol, with a nonalcoholic option offered separately.

Preparation and storage

Measure rather than free-pour. Do not assume heating removes all alcohol, and do not flambé near guests or an uncontrolled flame.

Recipe

Rum: adult citrus spritz

1 adult serving

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Rum — labeled ready-to-drink spirit
  • 15 ml lime juice
  • 90 ml sparkling water
  • 4 ice cubes

Method

  1. Confirm that the adult guest chooses alcohol and accepts the product’s ingredients.
  2. Measure the spirit and lime into a glass over ice.
  3. Top with sparkling water and stir gently. For an alcohol-free option, omit the spirit and use 30 ml pineapple juice instead.

At the table

A measured pour gives a drink a recognizable cane-spirit character.
