Caribbean pumpkin blossom
Pumpkin blossoms are delicate edible flowers from culinary squash plants. Their petals have a mild squash flavor and wilt quickly in heat.
Caribbean uses
They can be sautéed, folded into an omelet or filled and cooked. For a Caribbean menu, pair them with queso blanco or sweet corn without claiming one island-wide tradition.
Preparation and storage
Buy flowers sold for eating, not florist flowers. Inspect for insects, remove the firm center and rinse gently; dry carefully and cook the same day when possible.
Recipe
Caribbean pumpkin blossom: gentle pan finish
4 small portions
Ingredients
- 60 g Caribbean pumpkin blossom — edible squash flowers, cleaned, firm centers removed
- 15 ml olive oil
- 1 g fine salt
Method
- Warm the oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat.
- Add the flowers and cook gently 2–3 minutes, turning carefully, until wilted and tender.
- Remove from heat, add the measured seasoning and serve promptly.
At the table
Their tenderness brings a fleeting garden character that heavier squash preparations cannot provide.
At The Hidden Table, we adapt the portion, accompaniments and presentation to your guests, so this ingredient has a thoughtful place in an experience made uniquely for you.
